Ignite!

Posted by Dave and Carolyn Meyers in Photo Gallery on Jan 21st, 2012 | Discuss This Post |   Share

Team teaching with co-workers Adam and Laura this week was sweet. Canadians, Aussies, Koreans and Chinese…along with Americans trained to share their vision of ministry for the Gospel world-wide.

Strategies were prayed and planned for throughout the week. It will take a team.

Pray for these students and staff that a new fresh passion for the Cross will be ignited in their hearts!

Merry Christmas!

Ministry Time: On Dec. 16 our Missionary Training Center will celebrate the graduation of our missionary candidates. These students have been involved in an intensive 3 semester program which has equipped them to bring the Gospel to the least reached people around the world. God answers prayer and continues to send out servants into the harvest. Thank you for your love, prayers and strong support that allows us to serve the Lord at our training center as we continue to equip the next generation of tribal church planters world-wide! We could not do this without your support.

What some of our missionaries say about the training they received from us here in NTM.

“Tribal church planting is not something we could have just figured out to do on our own. We got the essential tools necessary for doing cross-cultural church planting in areas with no written language. Without this training we would be still spinning our wheels today.” (Rich and Karen Brown serve in Indonesia among the Moi people group)

Family Time: Kevin and Haily celebrated their 1 year anniversary in Oct. and are now expecting our first grand-baby this Feb! We love our growing Meyers family. :)

Brian graduated from Shepherds College in June and is doing great. He is now employed by the college in their student life dept. helping mentor students.

Megan continues to bring us joy with her bubbly personality. She is a senior graduating this May and making plans for college.

Carolyn works hard with the MK Care and Ed. dept. She focuses specifically on child protection. She and Megan enjoy serving in AWANA.

Dave has had a challenging year with his heart attack and recovery! His leadership, teaching and development of the overall USA training and the campus expansion is exciting.  This will be a special Christmas together knowing that things could have turned out so different.  Thank you God for the gift of life!

Prayer: For continued good health, growth, sensitivity to God in our lives as He guides our family and ministry with staff, students, church and the community.

Give: We are grateful for your faithful prayers and financial support. All year end gifts can still be sent to our FL home office at – NTM 1000 E First St., Sanford, FL 32771 or made online at: www.ntm.org/dave-meyers/give

Thank you for your love, care, prayers and support this past year.

May you have a very Merry Christmas!

Protecting Children….

Posted by Dave and Carolyn Meyers in Photo Gallery on Oct 17th, 2011 | Discuss This Post |   Share

“What factors in ministry in a remote location could contribute to child abuse occurring? What strategies can you put in place so that you are not vulnerable?” These are a few of the questions Carolyn presented in class for the students to discuss and work through in their minds and hearts. These are important issues to consider in the complex world of missions that many people don’t think through.

Effective ministry worldwide is much more than just learning language and culture and presenting the Gospel. There needs to be holistic training and other strategies implemented so teams of cross cultural workers can effectively accomplish their goals in remote areas of the world.

Pray for Carolyn and her child protection team as they help prepare the next generation of church planters!

Pray for the students as they consider this area of their training.

Construction Begins!

Photo-1With little fanfare, but many expressions of excitement and gratitude, semis began to arrive at our training center hauling loads of structural steel.

Destined for use in constructing the new Multi-Purpose Building, the steel was unloaded at the site of the recently razed, former gym and recreation hall. This new building will create additional interim classroom space and recreational facilities and serve as a large meeting place for all-campus gatherings.

It is slated for completion in the fall of 2012!

Six years ago, the strategic decision was made to consolidate our regional training sites onto our campus. It has been a huge undertaking for us and a massive step of faith. But due to so many friends and ministry partners and your faithful prayers and support, God is doing what seemed impossible!

Many teams have given their time and talents, invested there treasure to speed this vital ministry project forward. What started as a dream, then a plan, is now becoming a reality – thanks to your support of us as we train the next generation of missionaries!

The training our students are receiving by our staff is preparing them to expand the reach of the Gospel – reaching a new, unreached people group every 45 days!

Increased training capacity at our campus will mean increased opportunity for the unreached around the world.

Thank you for your part with us in training the next generation of world-changers!

We are so excited to be here!

“This is a dream come true since I was a kid!” “I can’t believe I am here, so I can be prepared to take the Gospel to those around the world.”

It is thrilling to see the next world-changers arriving and getting started in their new journey of growth! The semester just kicked off this week with a new and returning student body. From the 4 corners of the USA and around the world, students are excited to be here on campus and get further prepared for planting remote churches in some of the most difficult places on the earth.

Please thank God for all of these answers to prayer! Each student is a gift from Him.

We appreciate your faithful prayers and financial support as we begin the new semester with some really great new families!

A time to . . .

Posted by Dave and Carolyn Meyers in Family, Ministry, Photo Gallery on Jun 5th, 2011 | Discuss This Post |   Share

There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens: a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot, a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build, a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance,” –Ecclesiastes 3:1-4

Time is an interesting thing. God has nothing but time; but for some reason, we don’t. We are often controlled by it. Definitely during this process of recovery, time restraints have been loosed, and we have time. Time to heal, time to reflect, time to enjoy, time to rejoice. Thank you for your prayers for us during this “time.”

We also have time for “firsts” – Dave celebrated his first birthday after the heart attack this past week – that was significant! Next week we will have the first trip since being out in AZ. It’s an exciting trip because “firsts” will be involved again. This will be the first time we will be with most of our immediate family all together since the heart attack; it will be so special to see everyone. Why? Because we have “a time to rejoice!”

Brian is graduating from Shepherds College in Wisconsin! This is quite a milestone, and we can’t wait to celebrate his perseverance, his hard work, and in general, just the wonderful guy that he is. It will be a celebration to be sure. Little did we know that 22 years ago when God gave us such a special guy to raise that God would accomplish such an outstanding work in him. Brian loves the Lord, has lead several of his classmates to trust Him as their Savior, seeks to encourage everyone he encounters, and has shown character through the hard times. We are so very proud of him!!! :)

We had this idea – - we will be having a big family celebration on Saturday night and would like to read or present Brian with some notes of congratulations for his life and accomplishments. If you have the time – would you be able to jot down a note of congratulations, a memory, a word of encouragement, Scripture, wisdom, or whatever you would like – we will share these with Brian in the evening after his graduation.

Please respond to this email and we will begin compiling (if you’d be able to send a picture with it, that would be great!!) :D Thanks ahead of time for your kindness in making this special for Brian!

With Love and thanks,
Dave and Carolyn

Life – Coming Home! :D

Update – 4.27.11

Dear Friends,

We landed in MO Thursday night through a thunderstorm. Lightning flashed outside the airplane window, huge thunderheads, and turbulence. Somehow, it seemed like a fitting way to end our journey.

Megan stood waiting for us in the garage as we pulled in. Brian, his roommate, Pieter, and our dear friend, Jackie, welcomed us next. It was late… but we were home!! Sitting around the living room, we discussed what happened the day of the heart attack. Brian and Megan chimed in, giving details of where they were when I told them the news and how they processed it. Sleep didn’t come until after midnight.

The next morning we took in the outdoors noticing that everything had sprung to life. We had left when the trees were bare and returned to leaves and blossoms. Even a robin had built a nest in our clematis plant, thinking the house was quiet and vacant. Life was all around us! Beautiful! Very Significant!

We met with our general doctor later that morning. Having read the reports and having heard Dave explain in his own words what had happened April 1st, our doctor just shook his head and said, “I spend most of my time as a doctor downplaying drama so I’m not trying to be dramatic here, but you are a very fortunate man; seriously, it really could have played out differently. Wow!”

Life is so precious! We especially felt the blessing of life this Easter! Dave would have experienced life either way that April morning – all because of what we celebrate on Easter. The significance of our Savior’s sacrificial death for us and His resurrected life is everything!! We have life only through Him! So Amazing! So Miraculous!

We went to see our local cardiologist yesterday; Dave will begin Cardiac Rehab with a consultation tomorrow and rehab three times a week. We continue to appreciate your prayers for us through all of this. We are very, very grateful people!!!

With much love and thanks, Carolyn for us both :D :D

“Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.” Colossians 3:1-4

An Easter To Remember! – update 4.18.11

Posted by Dave and Carolyn Meyers in Photo Gallery on Apr 19th, 2011 | Discuss This Post |   Share

Easter is one of our favorite times of year. Remembering all that our Savior did for us on the cross and celebrating His resurrection is always a highlight, but this year it will have even greater significance. The giver of life has worked miracles in these last few weeks, and we are overjoyed by what He has done. We have shared many of those things with you, and have been overwhelmed by your response in prayer, caring and sharing with us. We’re not far from tears on most days.

OUR BIG NEWS – WE’RE HEADING HOME!!! Our AZ flight back to MO is scheduled for Thursday night. The doctor’s appointment this morning revealed that Dave’s blood is at an acceptable level to fly. We will soon be with Megan, Brian, and the rest of our family, and we’ll worship on Easter morning with our church family. Wow, what a special Easter it will be! Saying good-bye to Kevin and Haily and the rest of our AZ family and friends is the down side. We have cherished so much our time with them.

The journey of recovery is not over. Dave has to be very careful for the next few months while he is on the blood thinners. (He really does have an excuse now not to do yard work and dishes. Hmmm – :) ) He begins rehab at a local medical center so we continue to appreciate your prayers.

Again, I want to thank each and every one of you from the bottom of our hearts for ALL YOU HAVE DONE FOR US. A little note, a card, an email, a prayer, an offer to help, being an encouragement to us or to our kids. I can’t think of one of you I wouldn’t want to just give a big hug to and say, “Thank you, thank you, thank you!” You can’t even imagine what you have meant to us through this process. We are deeply grateful and know that we are blessed to call you our family and friends.

With sincere love and gratitude, Carolyn – for us both :) :)

The Greatest Yet?

This was an awesome week! Traveling to both NTM Bible College (www.ntbi.org) campuses; speaking to a vibrant student body and seeing God raise up a new generation of world changers was energizing. Both chapel times were impactful for me and challenging for all. Pray for this new, great generation of future church planters, willing to give their lives for the Gospel. I believe these students just might be the greatest yet to come as they move across the globe with God on their side and passion in their hearts. Thank you for making a difference in their lives by your prayers and support of us!

I want to be like Art!

We always are privileged to spend some time each year with our Gospel hero – Art Rorheim, co-founder of Awana. At 93…it is so inspirational to hear the heart of a Gospel giant and catch the spirit of God sneak up on you when you are around Art. Thank you Art for your heart, life and inspiration to us in getting the Gospel out around the world and especially to kids. We all want to be like Art!
