God at work in the “off” times

Posted by Craig and Cheryl Cassel on Thursday, July 19th, 2012

We trust the Lord is giving you strength and joy during these summer months. Below are a few pictures to help you see the fruit of your labor via prayer and financial support.

The kids still have a little over a month left for summer vacation. Cody spent some time in our “old stomping grounds”. He was able to attend a week long Bible Camp, do two dives, and just hang out with friends he hasn’t seen in over two years. Cheyenne has had some good Mom and Dad time, some pool time and friend time.

We continue to enjoy ministering to various groups of people during the “off” time. Each day still seems very full. Recently we have been able to have former students, future students and co-workers over for lunch and fellowship time. It’s a great ministry of encouragement, doing life together.

Craig’s recent trip to teach a workshop with former students turned co-workers was awesome. Nicho, Anderson and Craig had a great time teaching leaders of Calvary Church in another part of the island. After 3 full days we did another full day at BMW Theological School. God is at work here in Papua, Asia-Pacific. Thank you for partnering with HIM and us.

God Continues to work

Posted by Craig and Cheryl Cassel on Saturday, March 17th, 2012

Several weeks ago we were visited by two former students from the National Training Center we used to teach at. They are both from the same tribe and were in town along with their area pastor. We are glad to be able to visit, encourage and pray with them before they left. Both are now involved in ministry to their own people, teaching them chronologically from the scriptures and strengthening the church. We don’t see them often but are glad to be in this area where we can be an encouragement to them from time to time. The area pastor asked us to pray about placing some missionaries in their area because the one who has been there from another mission is retiring soon. I encouraged him to send two families to the GIDI Discipleship center were we presently serve so we can help more of their own people help their own church. Pray as we teach, disciple and encourage the church here in Asia Pacific.

P2J GIDI Church Discipleship Center

Posted by Craig and Cheryl Cassel on Thursday, September 1st, 2011

We are finally in full swing here at the P2J GIDI Church discipleship center. Nico Mawere and I (Craig) are teaching from 8 AM to 12 noon.  We are teaching from Genesis 1:1 all the way through to the Ascension of Christ. We are teaching two lessons each morning. I teach the first lesson from 8 to 9:45 and Nico teaches the 2nd lesson from 10:15 to 12.  We take time to review each lesson before going on to the next and give time for them to ask questions as well. You will see by the pictures in the attached PDF file that we have a very informal looking classroom.  We are trying to make what we do as easy as possible to duplicate in their home church and village settings. While Nico and I are teaching the adults, Cheryl and Jararing (Nico’s wife) watch the kids. There are 13 kids in all and one on the way  in about 3 months. 6 of these kids are under 2 years old. I think the ladies have the harder ministry.   Afternoons the students are involved in the work program 2 days a week and sports 2 days a week. Friday afternoons and Saturdays are open for them to try and find part time work. Pray for them as they look. This will help supplement their cost of living and administration fees.

Health wise, we are all doing pretty good. Cheryl and Cheyenne have slight colds, but they continue on in school and play.  Cheryl apart from helping at P2J also helps out at Cody’s school HIS. She is co-coaching the JV Girls Volley Ball team and is Co-Sponsor of the Sophomore class. Along with this she has agreed to serve on the HIS school board.  Cheyenne has begun attending a weekly art class with other home school kids. She really enjoys this and is quite creative.  Cody adjusting well to school and do pretty good grade wise so far. The first week of school the whole high school went on a beach trip. This was a way to get to know the new folks and for the kids to get to know the teachers and have a “spiritual emphasis” time together.

Please enjoy the Pictorial update and please pray for our students and their teachers.

Cheryl Feeling Much Better

Posted by Craig and Cheryl Cassel on Saturday, July 23rd, 2011

Thank you so much for praying for Cheryl.  If you have been following on Facebook then you have seen some progress. After 3 days of medication and some good rest Cheryl is doing much better. We appreciate all the emails and FB notes letting us know you are/where praying.  We even had a church from Conn. that was in NH on a mission’s trip praying for us. This really touched our hearts  These folks never met us before, but since they were ministering at our home church, they got the news and they prayed.

A former student and a bunch of his buddies came over today and played volleyball. Dr. Craig even let Cheryl play a few games. It’s been tough keeping her down this long. Thank you Lord for healing.

Speaking of former students, we have been blessed again by visits from two more guys that we helped train in Sulawesi. Sion was back in the early 2000′s and  is now on a Bible translation team with one other former student and a Wycliffe couple.  Matias has finished the Foundations Course in December and has been in his tribe teaching for the last 6 months. He is out in town for a couple of months. He will be able to hang out here at the P2J Discipleship Center for the first several weeks. This will give us some good time to be a blessing and encouragement to him.

God is working through these former students to expand the reach of the Gospel in various parts of Papua. Thank you for being a part of
2 Timothy 2:2 ministry through supporting us both through prayer and financial support.

I would like to give you some prayer request for the next several weeks.

1. We have 2 applications in for the P2J Discipleship Center. We are planning on starting 15 August. We will start with one family or 7. We prefer 7. Pray the Lord will raise up a total of 7 families.

2. Monday 25 June is Cheyenne’s Birthday.  Pray that the Lord will giver a great day with her friends. She is leaving the single digit life and becoming a “double digiter”.

3. August 3rd Cody will turn 15. God has given him some good friends here in Papua. Pray for his spiritual growth and sensitivity to the Lord and His Word.

4. Pray for continued good health.

5. For the last several years we have been running about 50 percent of NTM’s recommended support level. Pray the Lord will bring this up to 100.

Thank you so much for praying.

1st Application is in

Posted by Craig and Cheryl Cassel on Friday, July 15th, 2011

We are thanking the Lord today for His work. We received our 1st application yesterday for a family who wants to come into the GIDI church discipleship program. Nicho and I talked with him and an elder from his church. His dad is a pastor and he has been helping out at the church for about 6 years. He & his church desires them to be of a bigger help and have sent him here.

It may seem like a small thing, but after much work in seeking out the students it is encouraging to have this first one. He will go back and get his wife and two of his non school age kids. He will come back once he has got the other two settled with grandparents in the village. Pray for Manuel as he and his family prepare to move here over the next several weeks.

Last day with 3 PPMMP Students

Today was our last day with Anton, Sam & Anis. Tomorrow they will be on their way by ship to Sulawesi to attend the missionary training center. We along with a  couple co-workers had lunch with two of the guys mentioned above. Sam was visiting his dad in the hospital. Pray for Sam’s dad.

After lunch we relaxed with NatGeo about lions and how they get their prey. Once our food settled we played a little 3 on 3 volleyball. That was followed by some buah segar (fruit salad), which was quite refreshing.  In the midst of our fruity rest time we were paid a visit from another former student, Eddy Wowor. He is the director of another Indonesian mission agency. We had not seen him since 2001 when he and his wife graduated.  This was a great little reunion. At our house today were students from 1999, 2001, 2005(ish) & 2010.   It’s encouraging to see folks we taught involved in various ministries. Thank you Lord for a great day.

Relaxation & Building Relationships

Cheryl & Co-workers

Cheryl & Co-workers

We had a great time of building relationships with our co-workers on Saturday. Nicho and Jaing  just arrived last week from our school in Sulawesi. This week a group of 17, all coworkers and kids, went to Nicho’s mom’s house. After stopping at the market to get some veggies to share with her and the rest of the family we proceeded to the boat terminal.

Since they live on an island in the middle of the lake, fish is plenteous. In fact she raises fish in special nets just outside her house. This trip was a real blessing to us and an encouragement to Nicho and his family.   I posted all the pictures on Facebook. You don’t even need a FB account to look at them. Just click on PICTURES and you can enjoy the view.

You will not see Cody in any of these pictures though.  He has a good excuse for not being there.  He was part of a group who led the worship at the English speaking service this Sunday. They had practice on Saturday afternoon. He and they did a great job leading us in worship. He even played the bongos for one of the songs. Continue to pray for our kids as they develop relationships with others and the Lord.
