ami and inay semilia Nov 2007

The Banwaon tribal church has 40% of the New Testament translation checked and printed for them to use. Our partners, Albert and Lynne Castelijn, are living in Australia for two years and currently working on Romans 9 as they settle into Australian culture and their four children into school systems preparing them for University. Please pray for them too.

And while you are praying…

God blessed the Banwaon church with godly leadership who teach the believers in our village as well as traveling weekly on outreaches all over the jungle. Last year they sent out their first missionary.

Pogpasalamat (Thanksgiving)

Posted by Chris and Lynne Strange on Sunday, October 3rd, 2010

from Ben 090It’s Thanksgiving in the village!

We received a message from the village about this weekend’s feast to celebrate God’s provision for them through the recent harvest. It’s a great time of fellowship as families from all over the jungle gather in our village. They told us they are disappointed we will not be with them. They prayed for the repairs on the airplane to be completed so we might join them but we are all waiting for those answers in His time. We would so love to be there!

It’s such an exciting time!  Slaughtering, cooking, laughing, eating and playing fills the whole day. A beautiful time of worship and praise to God with singing, sharing and fellowship follows all night. I can hear all the sounds and enjoy the smells just thinking of these times past! (more…)

Bastun’s Story

Posted by Chris and Lynne Strange on Wednesday, September 29th, 2010

buddyBastun is a Banwaon Bible teacher. His is an amazing story.

He was so tiny when he was born his parents felt he would not live. As was the custom, they planned to leave him out in the jungle to die since it was too difficult to care for an infant they were certain would die anyway. They abandoned their tiny baby deep in the jungle.

God tells us in the Bible that He is always watching and has plans for our lives. God, ever true to His Word, was watching tiny Bastun and had a plan far different from his parents.

Chris Winging His Way Home!

Posted by Chris and Lynne Strange on Friday, September 24th, 2010

wingingEven as I type this, Chris is on his way back to the Philippines. It’s an exhausting trip back and we’d appreciate your prayers.

He’s been overseas in a seminar and had a rough time. Almost at the end of his course, he experienced some pretty severe back pain and had to resort to down time and heavy duty medication, but I’m pleased to report from a phone call that he is grateful it is so much better and he finished the course.

The Best Laid Plans…

If there is one thing living on the field has taught us, it’s: BE FLEXIBLE!

We had plans to be in the village by now, getting all the news from our friends and the daunting task of getting our house back into order after our furlough. There was a very tight time slot to get this all done as Chris is scheduled for time for additional training overseas for his new position here on the field. After all that was accomplished, we had planned to come out of the village to set up our house in town. Chris’ new position requires that he have continuous phone coverage for all the works here. Of course, living in the middle of the rain forest prohibits that, so we continue to maintain the house in the village, as well as establish a home out in town. I might repeat that was our plan.

Returning to the Village – SOON!

Posted by Chris and Lynne Strange on Thursday, July 22nd, 2010

at 50 with Balbinu 003First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for you all, that your faith is spoken of throughout the whole world. For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of his Son, that without ceasing I make mention of you always in my prayers; Making request, if by any means now at length I might have a prosperous journey by the will of God to come unto you. For I long to see you, that I may impart unto you some spiritual gift, to the end ye may be established; That is, that I may be comforted together with you by the mutual faith both of you and me.   Romans 1:8-12 KJV

Oh how we relate to this passage, especially now. The reasons are many and the desire is to be on separate sides of the globe – at the same time.

Coming down to Earth

Winging Back across the Globe

Winging Back across the Globe

As global missionaries, we get to spend a fair bit of time looking at things from the vantage point of this photo. We recently returned to the Philippines, traveling high above the earth where everything outside seems so pristine and far removed from the problems that we know are below. I can imagine that is the reason birds just soar – for the sheer fun of it, just because they can – to leave the dirt below.  I am pretty sure that is what makes birds so arrogant.

We are are learning much. God has carried us to some pretty divine highs. Knowing us as He does, He manages just the perfect balance between these and the ‘flat on our face’ moments that He weaves into our lives, bringing us into just the place He would have us. We so thank Him for bothering with us at all! (more…)

We just can't hold onto it!

We just can't hold onto it!

Our stay here in America is fleeting and before long we’ll be winging our way towards the Philippines. The months were packed and now we must be too!

Christian Joy

Christian Joy’s parents traveled on foot, motor bike, jeepney and bus for two days to get out of the jungle to the city hospital. His fever raged and he became unresponsive during the trip. The exhausted family arrived in the city at midnight where the hospital staff worked diligently to assess his condition.

12967_1270947646730_1021033659_837139_4195476_nGod allowed us some GREAT family moments with Brent and Tonia and our two little granddaughters!

Jaiden and Naomi were up to the task of filling our lives with joy and it was wonderful to sit and talk with Brent and Tonia. We spent just a little over one week with them as they graciously opened their home and lives to us, putting aside their incredibly packed schedule for us. They shared some exciting news!
