Christian Joy

Christian Joy’s parents traveled on foot, motor bike, jeepney and bus for two days to get out of the jungle to the city hospital. His fever raged and he became unresponsive during the trip. The exhausted family arrived in the city at midnight where the hospital staff worked diligently to assess his condition.

At two AM they transferred the family to another hospital with a pediatric intensive care unit because he stopped breathing on his own. These dear parents took turns manually squeezing a manual respirator for 72 straight hours for each breath their little son took into his body. (I (Lynne) relieved them for 3 hours so they could both take a break and experienced major cramping in both hands.)

Christian Joy lost his fight on this earth on Christmas day 2009. I tightly held his mom, both of us sobbing, as his life slipped away. His dad drained of physical strength when he tucked the blankets around his tiny body and closed Christian’s eyelids.

Inay Christian Joy (meaning mother of Christian Joythe way we address each other in the village) looked up at me with tears streaming down her face and said, “God is so good. I am very sad but my breath doesn’t hurt (their expression for deep emotional pain). Inay Brin (my village name meaning mother of Brent), God gives me the hope that Christian is with Jesus and I will see my son again. I  believe he is with your little granddaughter, Jerusha, in heaven like we are together here. God is so very good.”

Please pray for this dear family. Praise the Lord that they know Him and He is helping them work through this trial on earth as they look forward to being in His presence in Heaven.
