Limited Edition "American Idol Pizza"
When we first arrived on Mindanao we were invited to go out to eat at a restaurant down the road with our friends. It was described to us as “good if you’ve lived here for a while.” At that time we hadn’t lived here long enough. It wasn’t very good, but it was edible. 1 1/2 years later, we found ourselves back in the same restaurant eating and enjoying the same food and debating about whether or not the ketchup was “real” or banana ketchup. That got us thinking, “what else have we adapted to that might be an indicator that we’ve been here a while?” (more…)

My amazing wife. Maycie and Dylan's amazing mommy.
It’s the night before a flight. A flight that involves me staying in the tribe for the day until the missionaries are ready to come home. I can see on the weather map that a stationary front is moving in over the Eastern Philippines which means rain and nasty weather – stress. Bailey and I just put the kids to bed and Maycie was complaining off and on through the afternoon about her stomach hurting. We braced for a possibly long night of getting up to help her because she knew she had some leverage. We were near the end of a movie when we were interrupted by Maycie crying, and then throwing up all over her bed. (more…)

We had a great time and Maycie is already asking when we can go again.
We finally found some spare time to all go out to the hangar and go for a short flight. I had to fly to get current before a cargo flight the next day, so we decided to make the most of it and all go for a ride. This was the first time that Bailey had ever flown here in the Philippines and it was also Maycie and Dylan’s first flight. Maycie wasn’t quite sure what to think of it at first, but she ended up having a great time. Now she asks every day when we are going to go again. Dylan on the other hand, screamed for most of it, but I think I would have screamed too if I had to sit backwards in a seat like his and miss all the action.
The next step is to get all of us into our tribal locations to spend some quality time with the missionaries we are here serving. We are hoping to visit each tribal location before we leave on our 9 month home assignment in November.

I just had to take a moment to brag about my little lady today. Today is a flight day which means I am on the radio and can pretty much pay NO attention to Maycie at all. She knows that when the radio is on, she can’t be near me; but she is still a two-year-old so that is often a challenge for her. Today, though, she was abnormally quiet. When I finally had a spare second to listen for her, the quiet kind of made me a little nervous. So as soon as I knew Brian was safe, I went out to find Maycie and to see what had made her so quiet. That’s when I found this:

I sure love this girl…

It’s crazy how fast time flies and how much change just a few weeks can bring. Just two weeks ago I would have been sitting on the couch watching tv next to my sisters in the good ol’ USA and today, I’m back across the world, at home with Brian. It feels crazy that I was even there! But, as crazy as it feels, I WAS there and I had a truly wonderful time. It was a bit surreal to be back with my family, most of them I hadn’t seen in 2 1/2 years. (more…)

In case it's been so long that you've forgotten what we look like. Here we are...one happy family!
It doesn’t take long to notice that we’ve been silent for about three months. We apologize. This would have been a very fun and interesting time to be sharing all the exciting things going on in our ministry, but after Dylan came home from the hospital we entered “survival mode.” On top of our normal, full-time ministry here and taking care of a newborn and a 2-year old, we had a few extra highlights in the last three months: (more…)

We got help from the people in the tribe with securing the airplane until we can get an engine and propeller from the States to install. This is likely the place we'll be doing the work.
We have been working at full throttle the last few months in the flight program on Mindanao. We have been really excited to see first hand the work the Lord is doing among tribal people here in all our locations and how their love for the Lord compels them to reach out to neighboring tribes. It is an exciting time and we were just ramping up into a fully functioning program when things came to a screeching hault. (more…)

Maycie loves her little brother. It's really cute to watch her as she realizes her role as the big sister.
Everyone always told me that the transition from having one child to two is not too difficult because there is still only one child for each parent. Let me tell you…had it not been for my mom being here and having THREE adults to watch over two kids, I would have gone crazy! Granted we were moving at the same time and flying/doing radio as well, but still! I keep thinking life is going to calm down a bit and I can finally get used to having eyes in the back of my head so I can be watching what my two-year-old is doing while I feed the baby, but it definitely hasn’t and there isn’t much hope of it calming either . I am not complaining – I LOVE LOVE LOVE my babies and love that I get to spend everyday at home with them as I know many people don’t, BUT it hasn’t been an easy adjustment! (more…)

Thank you to all of you who have prayed for us and Dylan as he was in the hospital fighting an infection. It was an exhausting 4-day event for us, but well worth it as Dylan is doing very well in his own bed now. We are still tethered to the hospital because Dylan needs to get three injections every day until Tuesday. It is still way better than being in the hospital and much CLEANER too!
Thanks again for holding us up in prayer through all of this. We are still doing our best to protect Dylan from outside sources of germs and are staying alert to any complications he may develop from his stay in the hospital So far so good.

We sure are getting to know the local hospital these days. On Tuesday we took Dylan to the hospital to get some tests because he was running a slight fever. After the tests they decided that he should be admitted right away and start on an IV for hydration and antibiotics. It’s now Friday and we are still in the same hospital room waiting to be released. Dylan’s fever went away on Wednesday night at 11pm but we have needed to stay there for observation and are expecting to be released today.
Please pray that Dylan will recover from this infection, whatever it was, and be able to work through the remaining doses of antibiotics from home. It is a lot of work to be in the hospital here, a lot of work. We are both tired and anticipating a very busy flight week and would appreciate your prayers for strength and wisdom as we try to reinsert ourselves into normal life. Through all of this Maycie has done a tremendous job of rolling with the punches and being a helpful big sister. We were concerned (as are all parents) about how she would handle someone else in the family who would steal the show. She has such a sweet heart and caring spirit that has been fun to watch come out through Dylan’s ordeal. Thanks for all your prayers!
