It has been nearly five years since Savannah had her initial eight-plate procedure done to begin straightening her legs.  The results have been a miracle for her.

A recent check-up revealed that Savannah’s legs are continuing to stay straight even though the eight-plates were removed nearly two years ago.

Savannah is Home!

Savannah using her walker to get to her room.

Savannah insisted on using her walker to get from the garage to her bedroom when we got home from the hospital tonight.

Shortly after putting her in bed, her face got all blotchy and she winced for a few minutes while she fought back tears from the pain.

Please continue to pray for her pain and healing over the next few days.  And praise God with us for His goodness in bringing Savannah through this surgery so well.

Savannah in recovery

Savannah is out of surgery and doing well.

All the hardware from her legs was able to be removed. She also came out of anesthesia without complications.

Praise God! It will take several more hours before she is ready to be released.

Please continue to pray for her healing!

In surgery now

Savannah had a lot of fun playing with the team that would be taking care of her during surgery.

The photo is of her doctor, ready to take her into the operating room.

Please pray that the screws will be able to be removed completely and Savannah will not be nauseated when she wakes up.

Savannah is checked-in

Posted by David Abbott on Thursday, October 7th, 2010

Savannah is checked-in for her surgery today and is in good spirits — singing and dancing as usual.

They usually give the children valium to help them with anxiety. No need for Savannah. Maybe it would be more helpful for parents???

We’ve prayed together and Savannah is coloring and watching Animal Planet while waiting for the next step.

On Wednesday Savannah was examined by the doctor who performed her surgery in 2007.  After reviewing her x-rays and taking a look at her legs, it is clear that her legs have completely straightened and are actually starting to turn out below the knee.

Wednesday was Savannah’s appointment to follow-up on the leg surgery she had back in August 2007.  What we found out was really good news, but it could mean another surgery in six months.

Surgery check-up follow-up

Posted by David Abbott on Tuesday, March 24th, 2009

Savannah looks forward to the check-ups for her legs.Thank you for all the notes, reassuring us of your concern and prayers for Savannah.  The trip went very well, and we were thankful for a relatively cool day because the air-conditioner in our van is out again.

You will be encouraged, as we were, by viewing the X-rays on our Photos page.  When you see change over time it is much harder to recognize just how much Savannah’s legs have improved.

Surgery check-up today

Savannah enjoying the beach Dec. 31, 2008.

Savannah has a check-up for her legs this afternoon in Tampa. The mobility she has with the “eight-plates”  is amazing.  The eight-plates serve as internal braces that never get in the way of her very active life.

Due to an inherited condition, Savannah’s growth is slower than average and her bones bow at the growth plates.  People often misjudge her age, but they quickly discover she has a very sweet personality, sharp wit and an incredible vocabulary.
