Bill ~ living his dream!
Bill has returned from his roofing job and thankfully Layne had a camera!
Here’s a little glimpse of what they did…
Bill and Layne flew in a little 206 plane to this location!
Beautiful isn’t it?
The “captain” of the boat is from this first village. He is one of the teachers in the church there! They loaded up in this boat and headed upriver three hours to the village where they needed to repair the roof.
Bill got started right away! They had it half done the first day. The green heavy canvas tarp is what they were putting on. The black section was the older roof that was leaking. The roof only needs to last this year. The missionaries are hoping to finish up Old Testament Scriptures this year before they move into another village and start another translation. Pray that the Lord will keep this roof strong and the missionaries encouraged so His Word will be placed in the peoples hands this year!!!
There was a slight problem with the roof and the solar panels. Bill and Layne knew of a better way so they moved them!
Bill looking things over!
They moved them over to the better roof and now the missionaries don’t have to worry about them falling through their ceiling.
Bill loves doing this. Bill has always loved carpentry and remodeling but with his own business he kept saying, “this just isn’t it!” Since we have joined New Tribes and he is able to do what he loves and even better going into these locations he can finally say, “this is it!”
Bill had a great time hanging out with the missionaries and loved the opportunity to help out with the roof. He was even able to sit in on a church service there. That is always a great time to hear these dear PNG people give testimony of their faith in God!
Heading back home! What a great week. We are so thankful for the privilege to serve here and the opportunities that the Lord allows us to be a apart of! We are blessed!

He knows what my tomorrows hold…
Bill is still working away on the roof in the jungle. I spoke with him at noon sked and he thought they’d be done and able to work on some other projects. Tomorrow they will be fishing on the way back to the village with the airstrip, where they will spend the night. I hope his sidekick, Layne, has a camera!
I have always loved the timing of Bill’s trips away. God has always used these times in both of our lives to speak to us…so what will it be this time. I was sitting in “his”chair and staring out over the treetops toward the ocean when I began thanking the Lord for bringing us together 22 years ago in May. I thought through our years of marriage and how God had prepared me for this moment in time. While we were dating Bill’s job often took him out of town, not a big deal at that point. Then we were married and he was home a lot that first year and once I was pregnant for Garrett he was gone again. When Garrett was 11 months old Bill’s work took him away from Sunday afternoon until Friday…every week! He worked hard and came home for a day and half and would love on our boys knowing Sunday afternoon would come too soon. This went on for the first 12 years of our marriage before he finally started his own business so he could be home. It was then that he started going on missions trips.
It was then the Lord got a hold of his life and asked Bill…will you go for Me? We’re here so you know the rest of his story
As I sat here though I thought how often I was alone. It was the boys and I. I am so grateful for the years the Lord grew me up, in HIM! He used those years to draw me closer to Him, to show me that He was always there, no matter what went wrong the Lord gave me the strength to press on through it. He brought His Word to life for me, He challenged me and He broke me down. There is not one day that I would redo for He knew that someday I would be sitting on the other side of the world away from everything familiar and He even knew that the day would come that Garrett and Jake would be gone and it would be me and my Lord…my Faithful Friend and Companion! He reminds me over and over again that He cares about us and knows what we need and when we need it. The phone rang as I sat talking with my Friend and I heard those sweet words…”Hi Mom!”
Thank you Lord, for using my yesterdays and to prepare me for my tomorrows. And thank you for that phone call…the timing was perfect and the conversation such a blessing!

He’s leaving on a small plane…
Off he goes…this is what Bill dreams of! Heading into the different bush locations to help missionary’s with their hands on projects is what Bill looks forward to. He received an email from a family asking him to please come help them…their roof was leaking! The family is looking to relocate into a different bush location within a year so the fix didn’t have to be extravagant.
So he found a big enough piece of canvas tarp and headed out with his trusted sidekick, Layne Campbell! The plane could only take them so far. They guys were dropped off in one of our church plant areas and a boat was going to be there to take them up river 3 hours to the location where they needed to fix the roof. Bill LOVES this stuff! I really wanted to go but Bill said it was more important for the tools to go rather than me. The plane can only take a certain weight limit and the two guys a little cargo and their tools were maximum limit!
I need to close here. Our bush locations come up on radios three times a day, 8 – noon- and 6:40. It’s getting close to the 6:40 sked and I want to go see how the trip was and if they were able to start the roof today. Please pray for them to keep safe and I’ll keep you posted!
All in one day!
The Lord truly blessed the Biem team when He provided them with a new boat. It has arrived in the country and now the team has a safer and faster means of transportation. For Bill this means making trips… to pick them up and taking them back, when they need help with a building project or they need supplies…he’s on his way! He is going to love this!
Today was the first launch to the Island with the new boat. He said it was a great trip and they were able to get out there and back in a day, that’s GREAT news!
On their way home Bill and Thomas noticed fish jumping out of the water! They had run into an enormous school of yellow fin tuna! So they did what any of us would have done…threw a fishin’ line in and hoped to get one.
They ended up getting three!
Here’s Bill with one…
Thomas with one…
and all three together!
It was a wonderful day that the Lord gave the men. The Lord took them safely across the sea and back, it was a nice overcast day and He provided 3 fish as well. Those 3 fish were able to feed the 16 families that are living on center right now! Thank you Lord for your protection and provisions!
so much in one year

I took one look at our site and couldn’t believe it has been a year since we have put anything on here. We’ve sent out our newsletters but this poor site of ours has been neglected. So instead of writing a full review of the past year lets just pick up from what we’re doing today!
We are currently stateside, for one more day! We brought Garrett home in June after he graduated from Numonohi Christian Academy in Papua New Guinea. It’s been a whirlwind of a month but it’s time to say our goodbyes and leave our son in God’s Hands…where God can grow him up and shape him into the man that He desires. Garrett will be attending New Tribes Mission Bible Institute in Waukesha, Wisconsin for the next two years. We ask that you please pray with us as there will be a lot of changes for Garrett in the next few weeks. We leave on Monday, he starts his new job on Tuesday and will be moving in with family until he heads to school in August.
Then there is our Jake! He turned 16 on July 11th. We stayed here for his birthday so that he could get his permit! He not only got his permit to drive a car but motorcycle as well. This picture is of Jake on his new bike he got to ship over to Papua New Guinea! He can’t wait for it to arrive.
We have had an amazing few weeks full of visits and shopping in the land of plenty
but it’s time to head home…we miss our home and ministries in Papua New Guinea. The Lord has blessed our time here in the states and has our hearts longing for home…Papua New Guinea! Our goodbyes will be hard as we leave Garrett but the Lord’s calling on our lives is to minister to His people on the other side of the world. Please pray as we say “see ya later” on Monday and our travels next week. Thanks so much for your prayers…we sure appreciate them.
CRATES!!!!
We woke up Monday and looked out our bedroom window and saw this ship coming into port!
Bill had just gotten his wharf pass so that he could pick up our crates when they came in but it wasn’t until Wednesday that they let him in to pick them up.
They were so close!!
YEA!! Here comes Bill with the third crate!
I needed to show you a picture of the last time that I saw them…getting ready to leave NY to make the trip to NC
They left the port in NC on Monday, March 8th, the same day we left NY.
ok enough snow pictures let’s get back to PNG!
This picture {below} is not just a picture of Bill unloading the crate but in the background you see the apt. we will be remodeling.
There is a single lady that lives in the ground level apt. and we will live on top.
The five long windows on the left are living room windows and the two smaller windows are above the kitchen sink. More pics of that later! Back to crates!
Oh we can’t wait to get into them! It’s a big deal to smell the crates that come from America…they smell so good!
The crates and the contents smell so fresh, unlike the mold smell of everything else!
Brandon, the guy smelling the crate, is heading home on furlough with is family this month.
Garrett and Jake anxious to get into the crate…it was like opening a great big present!
They were not even going to wait for Bill to find the cordless screwdriver
AHHHH YES! It’s open!
Thanks for all who helped pack them and get them here! It was fun to see our things again and we found a note in one
of the boys totes from their Aunt Shelly!
We missed you!
Hi there! It was the longest 6 weeks of my life…it was good but I sure missed being in contact with you all. Internet and email is such a blessing for those of us who are so far from home. Many before us can share stories of receiving letters from home and it taking 6 weeks or more. And now we have gotten a small glimpse of what our bush missionaries go through but they are there for sometimes 6 months at a time and for several years. Bill and I will have the opportunity to go often and visit the dear folks in the interior and we look forward to doing all that we can to encourage them. I will be adding a photo album of our bush orientation so look for the Bush Orientation album and check back for updates because it will take me awhile to upload most of the pictures.
Getting Organized!
Today I spent most of the afternoon on a chair {because it was the only place that I could get good enough internet} putting our pictures in albums and uploading them for our site! As you can see over on the right hand side there are different photos with different names, I will be uploading our pics in these files and in time adding more albums. We hope that this helps keep you connected and gives you a little window into our world. Just click on an album and take a look around
Meet our friend!
This is me and Rosi! Rosi comes on Wednesday’s and helps around the house but our main reason for having her in is to help me learn the language.
Rosi is such a blessing to us and because she barely speaks English it forces me to learn the language so that I can talk. We have a great time together and share many laughs.
More pics were added to the photo box too!
