Paperwork, Check!
We now are not only leaving for Manila, Philippines, but can now STAY since we have just gotten our final document authenticated at the Philippines consulate last week! These documents, birth certificates, marriage certificate, Andrew’s ordination certificate, all needed to be presented to the Philippines consulate nearest where the document was issued (so that means we performed this process in Toronto, Los Angeles, and Vancouver), and then authenticated as a genuine document. These will now be used to obtain our visas when we arrive in the Philippines, which we will be able to get in just the first couple weeks- pretty fast process if you ask me! It is crazy to think this paper trail has come to and end- big praise!
Apartment, Check!
We received a huge blessing last week when an NTM missionary couple in Manila contacted us to let us know they wanted to offer their apartment to us as they are moving out of it end of this month! They wanted us to get back to them with an answer quickly so they could let their landlord know, because he wanted to give us first priority with the apartment. They told us about the apartment, and it basically had everything we wanted and more! Two bedrooms, two baths, has been fixed up quite a bit, has some appliances, is close to school and transportation- the list goes on! In Manila most apartments need a lot of work before you can move into them, because most don’t have appliances, fixtures, and sometimes even cabinets! When someone moves out they are allowed to take with them whatever they added to the apartment when they were there, for example, you bought door knobs for the place, you take them with you when you move out… But, this place is totally ready to move into just two weeks after we get there! So, I believe it took us about five minutes to decide whether we wanted it or not… “Yes, we’ll take it!” They have put a lot of work into making it nice, like working on it so it has no leaks, putting nice fixtures in, and we were even able to purchase a lot of their appliances and household items from them as well. All of this will save us countless hours that we would’ve spent searching for a place, furnishing it, and running around trying to figure out how to do this in a different country (things are done a lot differently). We again, are so thankful, and feel that God was very gracious to us, particularly in light of the fact that we would’ve been doing this with a 3 year old and newborn in tow… So this blesses the whole family- time to settle in and for the kids to have a place right away, and more time to spend together before we start language school in January! Praise God for His timely provision that exceeds what we could ever ask for!
BumGenius Grant!
As we’ve prepared for going to the Philippines, we’ve heard from many other missionaries that cloth diapers are great to have overseas. First of all, where in the world do you take your dirty disposables to when you’re out in the middle of nowhere in a tribe?… it costs way less to go cloth than disposable… AND, in the heat and humidity it’s much nicer on baby’s bum to wear cloth than disposable and the material they’re made out of.
So we thought what a great idea to get cloth, and then even greater, found out that CottonBabies gives a diaper grant to missionaries serving overseas, where they will give you for free a whole box of diapers and what you need to start out- saving us about $500 in what it would take for the initial cost!!
We applied for the grant and were approved a month later- baby Brenna gives two” itsy bitsy” thumbs up to this grant! We are so blessed by this organization that desires to help missionaries and in turn are helping the work they are involved in!
